When prompted whether to install the plugin, click on "Install".
If you are using Internet Explorer, click here to download Firefox.
You can also toggle the sidebar on and off by pressing "ctrl + shift + O" (for 'O'ylem) on a PC or "cmd + shift + O" on a mac.
When you use Oylem for the first time, you will have to create a user name. This is a very simple process. All you need to do is come up with a unique username that is between 3 and 16 characters long and a password, nothing else is required.
Click on "Sign up now" in the sidebar, and enter a username and password. Retype the password, in case you make a mistake, (Note that we don't ask for an email address or any other personal details, so there is no way to recover a forgotten password. Make sure you remember it.) and click on "Sign up!". If you entered a unique name that is longer than 3 characters and the same password twice, you should now be logged in.
At the top there is a little box that tells you which website the discussion is referring to. This will automatically set itself to the address of the site you are visiting. However you might want to override that sometimes. You can do that by editing the text in the box and pressing Enter.
If a site has a long discussion, only the most recent comments will be displayed at first. If you want to see earlier comments, you can click on "Show earlier" this will insert another another chunk of earlier comments at the top of the discussion. You can go back all the way to read everything that was ever said at any website. This means that if you are of the first few to comment on a famous website, you will become part of history.
To add a public comment type it in the input box in the "Public discussion" section, and press Enter or click "Send". Your comment should appear in the discussion box on your screen, and by everyone else who is visiting that page using Oylem.
To send a private message to another user, click on their username. This will insert their username in the "To:" box. You can also insert a username manually. Type the message in the box labled "Msg", and press Enter, or click on "Send".
